"BANANA HALWA" How to make banana Halwa step by step

                 "Banana Halwa"

You might have eaten various types of halwa, but have you ever heard of a halwa made with a banana? Here's a traditional dessert recipe from the Kerala cuisine, which is cooked on special occasions and festivals and will make your mouth water. Mildly sweet and chewy, this sweet dish is prepared using banana, ghee, green cardamom powder, and last but not the least sugar. You will be surprised to know that this Banana Halwa does not use much sugar, as bananas are already too sweet, it is just added to enhance the flavour of the dish. You can just use jaggery powder instead of sugar for a delicious taste. Do try this recipe at home, rate it and we are sure that it will be loved by kids and adults alike.

Ingredients of Banana Halwa

  • Step 1 Mash the bananas

To prepare this delicious banana halwa, peel the bananas and mash them in a large bowl. Put a pan on medium flame and heat ghee in it. When the ghee is melted, add the mashed bananas and reduce the flame to low.

  • Step 2 Cook them

Stir the mashed bananas in ghee and cook for about 15 minutes or until they become light brown in colour. Keep stirring the bananas to avoid them from sticking at the bottom of the pan.

  • Step 3 Ready to be served

After 15 minutes, add sugar to the pan and stir well to dissolve the sugar completely and cook for another 5 minutes. Then add cardamom powder and stir once again for a few seconds and remove the pan from the burner. Transfer the halwa to a serving bowl and allow the mixture to cool down at room temperature. Banana halwa is ready. Now cut thick slices and serve!

TIPS
  • Please use my timing as a guide. The time it takes you to reach each stage will vary depending on the type of banana, the intensity of the flame, and the pan used to make the sweet recipe.
  • Vary the amount of sugar depending on the sweetness of the bananas.
Use ripe to overripe banana for best results.
  • Use any variety of bananas but see that it’s overripe. Long bananas (plantain) tastes the best.
  • Except for the last banana that I show in the video, all the bananas that I use are overripe with skin completely black in color ðŸ™‚ I had no plans of clicking videos until I started adding the last one. Having said that, don’t use rotten bananas. You can taste overripe bananas before adding them to the recipe. There is a difference guys ðŸ™‚
